The story
Uptown Magazine is Magazine Street from Louisiana Avenue up toward Audubon Park, the 3600 to 6100 blocks. Galleries, menswear, jewelers, antiques and long-running family stores line a residential stretch.
It suits shoppers after local designers, gifts and art more than chains. The 3800 and 3900 blocks are the core, with a gallery cluster and a run of menswear and home shops.
What to Expect
Just above Louisiana Ave, Empire Antiques (3617) specializes in 17th- to 19th-century European furniture, with HGM Fine Jewelry at the same address, and Art & Eyes (3708) sells frames from smaller independent brands. In the 3800 block, Cole Pratt Gallery (3800) shows Southern painters and sculptors, Leontine Linens (3806) does monogrammed bed, bath and table linens, Potsalot Pottery (3818) sells handmade stoneware, Sotre (3820) sells home goods and Swap Boutique (3822) is designer consignment. Mignon Faget, the New Orleans jewelry designer, is moving its shop to a pop-up at 3806. The 3900 block has Greyson Clothiers (3900), Kevin Gillentine Gallery (3917), Billy Reid (3927), Current Crop Roasting Shop (3931), which sells green coffee beans and roasting equipment, and West London Btq. (3952).
Further up, Weinstein's (4011) carries designer women's and men's clothing, Neal Auction Company (4038) holds previews before its sales, Buffalo Exchange (4119) buys, sells and trades clothing, and Pollack Glass Studio & Gallery (4132) sells handmade art glass. Miss Claudia's (4204) has vintage and costumes, Peaches Records (4318) sells vinyl in a former Woolworth's with a 1940s lunch counter, and Magpie (4529) deals in vintage and estate jewelry. Alice and Amelia (4432) and Home Malone (4610) sell local art and gifts, Dirty Coast Uptown (5415) and Scriptura (5423) sit near Jefferson Ave, and Perlis Clothing (6070), family-run since 1939, is known for seersucker, linen and its crawfish logo.
Best Time to Visit
