Insider guide
Shopping Lower Magazine.
The story
Lower Magazine is the Lower Garden District and Irish Channel stretch of Magazine Street, from Felicity Street up to Louisiana Avenue (the 1800 to 3500 blocks), with one stop on Prytania at Washington Avenue. It runs about two miles, so it is easiest to shop in clusters.
It suits browsers who want New Orleans brands, costumes and secondhand finds. The 2000 block, the 2700 to 3100 blocks and the 3300 to 3500 blocks are the densest.
What to Expect
At the lower end, Krewe (1818) sells its New Orleans-designed sunglasses and optical frames. Trashy Diva has three shops a few blocks apart: a vintage market at 1920, its dress boutique at 2048 and lingerie at 2050. Century Girl (2023) is another vintage stop, Derby Pottery & Tile (2029) makes tiles with New Orleans street-name and water-meter designs, Lionheart Prints (2036) sells stationery, Miette (2038) has pieces of Mardi Gras float art and local gifts, and Passion Lilie (2109) is a fair-trade boutique.
Further up, Garden District Book Shop has sold new books and rare and signed first editions since 1979. Nadeau Furniture with a Soul (2728) sells solid-wood furniture, Slow Down (2855) mixes vintage clothing with books and art, and Anton Haardt Gallery (2858) deals in Southern self-taught and folk art. Magazine Antique Mall (3017) has 6,500 sq ft of dealers, Funky Monkey (3102) sells vintage and costume pieces, and Fleurty Girl (3137) has New Orleans T-shirts and Saints gear. In the 3300 block, NOLA Couture (3308) prints ties and bow ties with fleurs-de-lis and streetcars, NOLA Boards (3316) makes cutting boards in the shape of Louisiana, and Lucy Rose (3312) and SOSUSU (3427) are women's boutiques. Dunn and Sonnier (3433) is antiques dealer, florist and gift shop in one.
Best Time to Visit
Most shops open around 10–11am and close around 5–6pm, with shorter Sunday hours or Sunday closures. Krewe is open Mon–Sat 10am–6pm and Sun 11am–6pm; many other shops here post hours too, so check the one you want.
The First Saturday Art Walk runs 5–8pm, and Derby Pottery & Tile opens for it (next one Nov 7, 2026). On Thursdays, Really Really Nice Wines (3500) holds free tastings from 5 to 7pm.
If You Only Have an Hour
Do the 2000 block: Trashy Diva's Vintage Market (1920), Century Girl (2023), Derby Pottery & Tile (2029), Lionheart Prints (2036) and Miette (2038), then the Trashy Diva dress and lingerie shops at 2048 and 2050.
